About Marian Johnson-Healy
Marian Johnson-Healy, soprano, holds an Artist’s Diploma from the Curtis Institute of Music, and a BMAS from the University of Delaware. Ms Johnson-Healy studied with Barbara Hohn, Joanna Levy, and Raquel Adonaylo, and coached with Danielle Orlando, Susan Ashbaker, Gary Magby, Warren Jones, Julianne Baird, Sharon Daniels, and Jay Lesinger.
Ms Johnson-Healy’s highlighted operatic credits include Pamina in Die Zauberflote, Despina in Cosi fan tutte, Antonia in Tales of Hoffman, and Magda in La Rondine. Additional concert credits include, soprano soloist in Haydn’s The Creation with the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia, Harbison’s Mirabai Songs with Peabody Orchestra, as well as soprano soloist in Saints Saen’s Christmas Oratorio, Poulenc’s Gloria, Rutter and Bach Magnificat, Scarlatti’s Christmas Cantata, Rutter’s Requiem Mass and Mass for the Children, and Handel’s Messiah.
For 30 yrs she has maintained a large private studio in Newark Delaware, focusing on training the high school singer. Her studio consists of students from as young as 12 years thru adult. It is her goal to develop a solid singing technique through appropriate vocal exercises and repertoire for each student, and to guide them toward their individual goals. Her students have won many awards, locally, regionally, and nationally in both classical and music theater divisions for Music Teachers National Association, NATS, Schmidt Competition, Classical Singer Competition and Hal Leonard Competition. Many have been accepted to study classically at Manhattan School of Music, Carnegie Melon, New England Conservatory, Boston Conservatory, Peabody Conservatory, NYU, Westminster Choir College, Furman, Gettysburg, Ithaca, Lawrence, Wheaton, and University of Delaware, and for Music Theater at University of Michigan, NYU, Pace, Elon, Ithaca, Boston Conservatory, Catholic, American, James Madison, Baldwin Wallace, Ball State, Marymount Manhattan, Montclair, and for jazz and contemporary vocal studies at Berklee College School of Music. Every year, you can hear many of her students in lead and supporting roles in their high school musicals, and in local theater in the Tri-State area.
Ms Johnson-Healy has been Chair of the Delaware Vocal Festival since 1998; District Governor of Delaware division of National Association of Teachers of Singing, Music Teachers National Association, and Delaware Music Teachers Association.
